Karigamombe, a victory song, is a song taught to beginning mbira students, and it is also very powerful in Zimbabwean culture. The literal meaning is “one who overpowers a bull”. In Zimbabwe, it is usually played for ancient spirits, and everyone joins in the singing, which shows the significance of the song. The workshop will be taught in Standard (Cosmas) Nyamaropa tuning.
Standard (Cosmas) Nyamaropa tuning mbiras will be provided, but bring yours if you have one.
