The Sissons

Micah Sisson has been playing with Mukana Marimba since 1999, and teaches parts to current players. He has attended more than six Zimfests, served on the organizing committee for Zimfest 2007, and also taught marimba workshops at Zimfest 2010. Micah has attended the workshops of many teachers, including Farai Geze, Michael Breez, Stephen Golovnin, Sheree Seretse, Michael Sibanda, Randy Macintosh, Amy Stewart, and more.

Keenan Sisson has been playing Marimba in Mukana Marimba as a regular since 2007. Previously, he was a part-time member/student. Keenan has attended four Zimfests. He has been co-teaching adults in a weekly student marimba ensemble with his father, Bob, for two years.

Bob Sisson began playing Zimbabwean marimba music in Seattle in 1992 under the instruction of Carl Heller, a former student of Dumisani Maraire. In 1998, he helped form a group in Olympia, Washington, currently know as Mukana Marimba. Bob attended his first Zimfest in 1999, has attended eight additional festivals from Washington to Oregon, and was also a member of the organizing committee for Zimfest 2007. He has extensive workshop experience from many local and traveling teachers, such as Michael Sibanda, Michael Breez, Stephen Golovnin, Sheree Seretse, Farai Geze, Randy Macintosh, Amy Stewart, Chris Berry, Zivanai Masango, and more. Bob has been teaching a student ensemble for two years, assisted by his son Keenan, and currently resides in Olympia, Washington, where he repairs musical instruments professionally.
