Piwai

 Piwai

Piwai is a bona fide singer/songwriter, mbira player, and percussionist, whose reverberating soulful voice & dynamic stage presence has left audiences pumped up for more mystifying and exotic sounds. Her background started while growing up in Zimbabwe. Piwai was always surrounded by music from her family’s rural home where jiti was a common sound at night. From a young age she was influenced by music from the Zimbabwean Catholic Church and the Suthu and Zulu tribes, which continue to be a passion of hers. Piwai continues to perform and record original music. She made her niche in singing various styles, genres, and languages, including, but not limited to: English, Shona, French, Spanish, Lingual, Zulu, Xhosa, Swahili, Georgian, and Turkish Judeo Spanish. Piwai continues to work with her world music percussion group, Mosi-Oa-Tunya, and currently does vocals and hosho with ZimBeat.
